Wonder!
Are thoughts of AI reminiscent of bells in a poem ringing in a thousand heads without ever having heard the bells that the poet might have heard! Or perhaps imagined!
A thought may be unfelt, a bell may be unheard, yet both may resonate through other minds.
AI makes the question especially interesting. A language model can reproduce, transform, and evoke patterns associated with “thought” without necessarily having human-like felt experience.
But, what doe’s ringing ever mean if nobody has ever heard? What are bells that are not seen or felt? What are thoughts without experience?
